How Does eSIM Work for Travel?

Three simple steps to show how eSIM works for travel, how to get an eSIM, and how to activate eSIM service before your trip. No contracts, no physical SIM, no hassle.

How eSIM works

1

Choose your plan

Pick your destination and data amount. Pay in CAD.

2

Get your QR code

We email you a QR code. Scan it on your phone to install.

3

Activate abroad

Turn on data when you land. You're connected.

Get your eSIM

Right after purchase, we send a QR code to your email. You can install your eSIM before you leave by scanning the QR code on your phone, tapping "Install on iPhone," or entering the SM-DP+ and activation code manually. The eSIM stays dormant until you activate it.

If you are wondering how to activate eSIM on iPhone or Android, the process is similar: install the plan first, then turn on the travel line when you are ready to use it.

Make sure your phone is unlocked and eSIM compatible. Check our FAQ for compatibility details.

3

Stay connected

When you land, turn on cellular data for your travel eSIM. No store visits and no swapping SIM cards. Your phone will use the local network and you'll have data right away.

You can keep your Canadian SIM for calls and texts. Most phones support dual SIM, so you can use both at once.

When should I install the eSIM?

You can install it anytime before or during your trip. Many travellers set it up at home so it's ready when they land. Others wait until they arrive. Either works. Just make sure you have internet when you scan the QR code.
